Scientific Proof: Your Mind Changes Your Body!
|
For anyone who wants scientific proof that your mind changes your body, there are tons of information
available. Some of it is subjective, which means that it is a story told by an individual and it is harder to
verify.(How, for example, can you compare the results with the results from a different treatment?Or
none?) If you want to be hard nosed and toss those stories out, that’s okay. You will still find ample proof
that the mind influences the body in dramatic ways.
Where? Start in the archives of the Federal Drug Administration.
The FDA contains the best documented proof ever that the mind affects the body. Every single study
submitting a drug for approval contains scientific confirmation that the mind can, and does, make
incredible changes in the body, simply by what it thinks.
It’s called the Placebo Effect.
People get cured with fake medicine - with sugar pills, distilled water, and phony surgery.
People get cured because their minds change their bodies.
People get better even when they are told there is only a 50% chance that they are getting real
medicine. People get cured by the same substance that make them sick. And, people get better even
when they are told flat out that they are getting sugar pills.
In one study, 40 asthmatic people were told that a saline solution they inhaled was filled with their
allergen. Twelve developed full blown bronchial spasms. Then, within 3 minutes of receiving a saline
placebo (the same stuff that caused their asthma attack), their symptoms disappeared.
Even when they know they aren't getting medicine, people get better. A study conducted in 1965 by
researchers at Johns Hopkins University on fifteen patients with neurotic disorders (panic, phobias, OCD).
The researchers didn't even pretend: "We feel that a so-called sugar pill will help you. Do you know
what a sugar pill is? A sugar pill is a pill with no medicine at all in it? I think this pill will help you
as it has helped so many others. Are you willing to try this pill?"
Fourteen of the fifteen agreed to try the pill. (One refused because her husband laughed at the idea.)
Thirteen improved during the week of taking the sugar pills.
Traditionally, the Placebo Effect is thought to average about 35% effectiveness. Actually, it often goes
much higher. If presented by a famous doctor or given a media-touted treatment, placebo results will be
extremely exaggerated. Those who keep track of such things estimate that pain relievers are 56%
placebo effect because subjects tend to report relief long before the medication has time to reach the
pain sites.
And, how do you account for those stunning reports about people with Multiple Personality Disorder?
Enough of the sources were professionals of integrity that you have to take them seriously, however
amazing the stories seem. When one personality becomes asthmatic around cats while another
personality rubs her face in fur with no reaction, it says something serious about the power of the mind.
If one occupant of a body is diabetic, with the blood reading to prove it, while another personality,
minutes later, tests normal for blood sugar, what does this say about the body and the mind?. Even
eyesight and brain waves from different personalities in the same body have been measured as
substantially different.
If it’s not the mind, making these measurable changes in the body, what is it?
The changes happen. And what causes them to happen is the belief that they will happen. Belief creates
intention that the changes will take place, and results in the biology of the body changing in a
measurable way.
A Gallop poll from 2004 that showed more than 55% of Americans believe in the mind/body connection for
healing.
A New England Journal of Medicine Survey found that those most likely to practice mind/body healing
techniques were college educated people with above average incomes.
Which makes perfect sense, doesn’t it? Educated people are more likely to trust their own judgment and
explore new methods of the results they value.
