Do all those jangling bells and dripping colored lights give you the urge to rip plugs out of sockets and wires out of
walls?

The holiday season does that to a lot of women. And it’s the ones who don’t allow themselves to admit it who
suffer the most. They seldom realize how that dammed up stress is destroying them. Whatever  lovely things the
holidays are supposed to mean, what they really mean to most women is MORE WORK added to an already
overloaded schedule.

And stress is pure poison.

Stress affects every part of your body, from muscles and tissues to blood vessels and organs. It speeds up heart
rate,  raises blood pressure and body temperature, and can interfere with metabolism, sexuality, fertility, and
sleep. It can shut down a woman's menstrual cycle, even trigger early menopause.

Stress weakens the immune system, can cause depression, and impairs your memory by shrinking a crucial part of
your brain. Stress can contribute to such life-threatening conditions as multiple sclerosis, lupus, rheumatoid
arthritis, osteoporosis, cancer, diabetes, and heart disease. Chronic stress can shorten your life by 15 or 20 years.

But, before you progress that far, there is a really strong probability that STRESS WILL MAKE YOU FAT.

Stress causes your body to produce cortisol  which makes you  crave sugary, carbohydrate-rich, and fatty foods.
Once you've stuffed yourself, the fat cells signal the brain saying you've refueled and the brain stops producing
stress hormones, which relaxes you -- temporarily. If you’re under chronic stress,  the more you eat, the hungrier
you get. Cortisol remains elevated for hours after the stress has subsided. As a result, you eat when you're not
hungry.-- and you get fat.

Holiday food plus stress does not make a happy new year.

You can’t eliminate stress from your life, but you can learn to control your reaction to it. Stress is complex and to
really get it under control often requires a complete change in life style. However, in just one hypnosis session,
most people can learn a simple technique for releasing stress and relaxing that takes only five minutes.  With
practice, you can get so good at it that you can do it anywhere. It may not protect your waistline from holiday
stress completely, but it will make a very real difference.
