November MindChanger Newsletter
November 1, 2005
Welcome to the MindChanger NewsLetter!
Did you ever wonder how it is that some people just seem to be born lucky? Do you know someone who
just leaves you shaking your head in amazement because good things happen to them wherever they go,
no matter what they do?
A recent study shows that lucky people are lucky because they look at life differently than the rest of us.
Lucky people hold certain beliefs that CAUSE their good luck.
And YOU can adopt their techniques and apply them to YOUR life.
Remember: Beliefs are NOT necessarily facts. A Belief simply defines a person's experience. If you believe
you are not good at math (possibly because someone told you that when you were a child), you will not be
good at math. But hypnosis has helped a lot of "poor" math students become good at math. I'm one of
them.
What are the Beliefs of Lucky People?
They believe that something good is always about to happen. "Something" can be anything - a parking
place, a dime on the sidewalk, a hummingbird. Believing something is true changes your awareness and
expands your peripheral vision. Honest. Lucky people actually have a measurably greater field of vision.
That makes you more aware of everything around you, which allows you to "see" things that others don't,
because they aren’t looking.
They believe that there is more than enough "good" in the world for everyone. Because they believe there
is no shortage of good luck, they are able to be happy about the good luck of others. They are not envious
because they don't believe they are losing anything when someone else gains. And this belief tends to
verify that luck is out there.
What's The First Law of Psychology (from the last MindChanger)? What you pay attention to, you get more
of, right?
They believe they deserve the good that comes to them, whatever it is, and they seldom brag about it. A
good exercise it to make a list of all the good things in your life that come to you as a result of your own
efforts - an inventory of success.
British Professor Richard Wiseman, author of THE LUCK FACTOR, says you can change your luck. He had
people keep a journal and record something lucky that happened to them each day. Two years later, they
had become “lucky people”!
Other exercises to help you acquire a "LUCK FOCUS:
1. Focus on the good in every situation, even if you only learn something from it.
2. If something is not working, learn from it and put it behind you.
WITHIN A WEEK OR TWO, I’LL HAVE A NEW “CHANGE YOUR LUCK” HYPNOSIS CD AVAILABLE FOR SALE ON
LINE. I’LL SEND YOU AN EMAIL WHEN IT IS AVAILABLE AND HOW TO GET A 25% NEWLETTER DISCOUNT
UNTIL THE END OF THE MONTH.
This Month’s Mind Rule
Law of Substitution: Opposing thoughts cannot be held simultaneously. Always substitute a positive
thought for a negative one.
You are invited to share ways YOU put this “law” to use in your life.

Brain Scan proves hypnosis changes your mind!
From “Proceedings of the National Academy of Science: Hypnotized subjects outperformed their peers in a
classic test of mental focus.
The subjects were give the Stroop test, which is the names of colors are written in colors different from the
words. The subjects are timed on their ability to name the color in which the words are written while
ignoring the actual word itself. The word “blue” is written in yellow, the word “green” is written in red. It’s a
bit tricky. (Sample below for those of you who get this in HTML)
RED YELLOW BLUE GREEN
BLUE GREEN RED YELLOW
Half of the subjects were hypnotized and half were not. The hypnotized subjects were told that, when they
were wakened, a cue, such as a coughing sound, would cause them to see the words as gibberish and they
would only be able to see the ink color.
Not only did they do the test 10% faster than their peers, the brain scans showed there was less activity in
the area of the brain that is involved in planning and conflict resolution.
This is the area of the brain that resolves conflict between sensory input and intellectual input. (Like when
you are presented with chocolate torte for dessert and you remember your doctor told you your weight has
to come down.)
This test proves that post-hypnotic suggestions have a real biological effect.
Real Hypnosis: The third Thursday of November is the 28th annual Great American SMOKE OUT. It’
s a one day commitment to not smoking that is intended to prove to smokers that they CAN quit.
Quitting is not easy. If it were, there wouldn’t be any smokers left. Hypnosis has the best record, and
nationwide, it’s about 24% success rate the first time around.
I run closer to 82%, but quite frankly, it’s because I’ve gotten picky about who I take on. I’ve
discovered that it is not enough that people have health issues that make it necessary to quit, they have
to really want to quit, too.
Heart attack, lung cancer, emphysema…yeah, sure… and the eyes glaze over as they tune out.
Statistics show that we all seriously underestimate OUR risk of serious disease and death. For one
thing, it’s too far in the future. One cigarette, one cookie, one drink….aw, come on…we’re talking one
cigarette here…get real.
An accountant who really wanted to quit taught me some valuable lessons recently. When we discussed
why he wanted to quit, he laughed and said for the OTHER reasons. I picked up my pen to make notes. I’
m glad I did.
Did you know that smoking gobbles up a COUPLE HOURS of precious time EVERY day? And causes all
kinds of aches and pains. And indigestion? And ages your skin and makes your hands and feet cold and
ruins your sex life. And it’s a very expensive ($1500 a year for a pack a day) way to make yourself
stink.
When time is money, it’s not “in the future” that smoking shortens your life, it also seriously shortens
your day. At seven minutes a cigarette you can waste 2-3 hours a day just smoking.
Go to www.changebyhypnosis.com/OTHER_benefits_of_quitting_cigarettes.html for the full article and
pass it on to any friend or family member who might benefit.
Thanks to John’s analysis, I made a new SMOKEOUT CD set, “Getting ready to Quit” and “Done with
Smoking” that address the immediate benefits of quitting in a way that has greater appeal to the
subconscious than the standard good health freedom from cigarettes approach. It might make a
thoughtful gift for a smoker you love, but do read www.changebyhypnosis.com/smoking_addition.html
before you go that route.
The smokers who tested these CDs are doing well, but they were very motivated to quit.
If you know a smoker who wants to use the Great American Smoke Out of test their interest in quitting,
I will be holding TWO FREE SMOKE OUT SESSIONS at UltraHealth Chiropractic at 104 S. Centerville
Road (Columbia Ave and Centerville Road) on 11/17/05 at 12:30 pm and 5:30 pm.
