          MindChanger NewsLetter

                                                                                                                             January 2, 2006
Welcome to the
MindChanger NewsLetter.

Over the last month, I've received some reports that some people using the CHANGE YOUR LUCK CD
have already seen results.
Two people reported selling houses that weren't moving, and one reported an
in-house job change that resulted from an "extra awareness".  That's amazingly fast. Did the CD have
anything to do with it? Who knows? The two-year study done in England said good things happen
consistently to those who notice the luck around them, so...

THANK YOU to those of you who said you benefited from the "stress tips" last month. I ‘m delighted to know
they work for you. It was startling, though, to read that M. K. W. doubted the outcome but did it anyway.
That kind of faith is humbling.  I’m REALLY glad they worked for HER.

M.K.W wrote, "Your stress tips work. I thought I was being rude, but my in-laws were as relieved as I
was that I was honest about our time and money limitations. Turns out, they were having problems of
their own. Thanks for giving me the courage. I enjoyed Christmas this year, for a change."

All I can say, I’m so glad you did!

And now, to all of you - I'd like to ask for your help. I regret to say I am not participating in the national
Hypnotize America program this year because I couldn’t find a place to hold this event. I’m sure there are
appropriate places. I just need your help in finding them..

Several times over the last year, I held FREE sessions and seminars. Finding a location which is centrally
located, easy to find, has good acoustics, and costs little or nothing is difficult. These events have to be
publicized, the time has to be scheduled, literature has to be printed - FREE can get pretty involved and
expensive.

I would like to do more of these. There is a serious need for an inexpensive on-going weight management
support group for diabetics (and other health issues). And I keep getting requests to hold a series of
classes on HOW YOUR MIND WORKS. (I'm also open to your suggestions. And, your friends' suggestions…)
The question is, where?

I am new to Lancaster. I came here knowing only five people in the whole county, and three of them were
school children. Could you help me out? Cost is an issue, and so is location. And, it’s important to be able to
schedule the event at a time suitable for the public that does not interfere with the normal functions of the
building.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Call, send an email, write...heck, flag me down on the street!

...and, that said…Welcome to 2006!

There are many superstitions and traditions related to starting the New Year…eating lentils (for prosperity,
because they resemble coins), black eyed peas, or pork and sauerkraut… paying all bills and cleaning the
house in order to make a “clean start”…  making “resolutions” to replace some (or many) bad habits with
more desirable ones.

And, isn’t that a grand thing?

As each year passes, more traditions, ceremonies and rituals get sacrificed to expediency and drift out of
our lives. Daily family dinners that began with clean hands and grace gave an entirely different perspective
to food than the microwaved meal in front of the news that so many of us have substituted in our attempts
to “do it all”.

But
something about being human requires us to stop and give recognition to the important changes, to
beginnings and endings, to significant events that mark the progression of our lives.
The completion of a yearly cycle is a major event for all of us.

It is always exciting to anticipate what magical things might happen in the coming year…and it is often
important to decide what to leave behind as we move forward.
BECAUSE, despite what the “you-can-do-anything” people would have us believe, we DO have limitations.

You have a finite amount of time, energy, and talent.

If you are going to do something new, you are going to have to give up something that is already
absorbing that time/energy/talent.
You may only give up a couple hours of crappy television… (which is a
good idea anyway Real living is much superior to vicarious living -  although some people take a little while
to figure out what emotions to feel without background music to trigger their feelings.)…but, SOMETHING is
currently occupying that time zone.

How do you decide what to give up? Make a list of everything that makes no useful contribution to your
life. Just for the heck of it, take a minute right now and DO IT.  Don't think. Just grab a pen or a word
processor and start writing, as fast as you can, for ten minutes. Make a list of what you can do without in
2006… debt, illness, extra fifteen pounds, whining, fear, self-pity, your 29 yr. old live-in son, his two cats,
shoveling snow when you have a 29 yr.old live-in son...

Make the list, then...  assign each item an estimated amount of hours you spend doing "that" in a year. It
doesn't matter if you figure it per day times number of days, per week times number of weeks , or however.
(Nobody's going to follow you around to see if you're exact, I promise.)

Can't figure a "time" for the extra fifteen pounds? Pick up three five pound sacks of flour or potatoes at the
grocery store, stick them in a backpack and carry them around for a couple days. You'll get a pretty good
idea of how much they slow you down.

Add up all those estimated hours.

Now, consider these numbers: There are 168 hours in a week. Sleeping eight hours each day (well, wouldn’
t you feel better if you did?) reduces that to 112 conscious hours. If you only spend 12 hours a week eating
(just eating: not eating and driving or eating and watching TV) that leaves 100 hours, right? (We're just
estimating here, to make the math easy, and to make a point.) If you want to subtract your working hours,
go ahead. Some people consider work part of their conscious hours and some don’t.

So, how many weeks -  increments of 100 hours (or 60, 40, or whatever is left when you subtract
work) of your conscious life are you frittering away on each of those things that make no useful
contribution to your life EVERY YEAR?

THAT'S IT. THAT'S ALL. JUST TUCK IT AWAY IN "THE BACK OF YOUR MIND" AS YOU ASK
YOURSELF IF YOU’RE SATISFIED TO USE UP YOUR LIFE THAT WAY…and wait…

(If you did the exercise, you experienced a form of "waking hypnosis".  Hint: Human beings hate not having closure; we
tug and pull and push and worry at things until the box is closed and the string ends are neatly tied.  Send me an email
telling me how long it took until you tied up your loose ends.)

                  So, what wonderful Changes
are you going to make this year with the time you just saved
by eliminating all those useless things you used to do?

That should be a joke, but too many people spend too much time beating themselves up over changes they
think they should make but don’t.  And, sure, change is inevitable – except from a vending machine – but
the major principle of your subconscious mind, which governs your habits and the functions of your body, is
to keep everything the same and on an even keel.

Keeping things the same performs a very serious survival function: It assumes that whatever you have
been doing is working because you are still alive, so let’s don’t mess with success. Who knows what might
happen if you change something? Easy gradual changes aren’t too bad when you can see what’s ahead of
you way down the path. But, just open a door and step outside? No way! You don’t know what might be
lurking out there, just waiting to pounce and gobble. Better leave well enough alone.

We have a very genuine aversion to leaving the familiar, no matter how bad it is, even when we know
ANYTHING would be better.

So, be kind to yourself over those changes you haven’t made…yet.  Even the best New Year’s intention
and the reminder that the years are passing often aren’t enough.

If you want to change…you need to apply

THE CHANGE PRINCIPLES

1. People will stay the same until they have a powerful motivator to move toward or away from a specific goal.

2. If you want to change, you have to have a powerful WHY. (People “who do not live up to their potential” are lacking
powerful goals or desires.)  Make a list the strongest reasons and benefits for being different than you are now.

3. Decide what price you are willing to pay to achieve the change.

4. When you know what motivates you, you know why you want to change. Write it out and say it aloud – at least twice a
day. WITH EMOTION.

5. Believe it can happen. Imagine going through your day with it completed.

6. Demand persistent continuous action of yourself toward attainment.

   a.        Concentrate on creating a clear picture of outcome.
   b.        Eliminate people or events that sabotage your success – at least until you form the new habit (21 - 45 days).
   c.        Notice what causes any slip or trip, eliminate it, and go on. (You didn’t learn to walk without falling on your
butt a time or two, and you got right back up, didn’t you?)
   d.        Give yourself credit for all the things you are doing that contribute to your success.
7.
Practice self-hypnosis, hypnosis, or listen to a CD to speed the process and make it a hundred times easier.

And, yes, there is a Guided Visualization CD for this. THE CHANGE PROCESS  uses sophisticated NLP
techniques coupled with classic hypnosis to guide your imagination though the changes you want to
make. Because your subconscious becomes familiar with the changes as if they are already a part of
your everyday life, it believes the changes have already taken place and installs them in your conscious
life.

THE CHANGE PROCESS has two parts:  1) “The Change Process Instructions” (12 min) is designed to
help you formulate and define your specific changes. 2) “The Change Process” (31 Mins) guides you
through a flexible imagination process that will change and become more intense with each repetition
because your mind supplies a changing set of details as you improve your skill at “seeing yourself”
successfully changed.

The really unique thing about
THE CHANGE PROCESS is that it is designed so that you can use it on
virtually any change (One at a time, please. Stay focused.)  It’s $29.95 and you can order it by clicking
on
THE CHANGE PROCESS  which will take you to a page with complete information.

Real Hypnosis: One of the most fascinating mind/body processes is “anchoring”. Anchoring is the process of associating a
feeling with some internal or external trigger so that the feeling can be instantly recalled. It’s similar, but of much wider
scope, than classic Pavlovian ring-the-bell-make-the-dog-salivate conditioning. We use it all the time, accidentally and on
purpose, without knowing it.

I wonder when the last time was that you heard a song on the radio and were instantly transported to a time when you
were thirteen…or sixteen…

You can, and do, do the same thing on purpose. And sometimes it gets you into trouble. Like when you stuff yourself with
chocolate to recreate that special feeling you got from the huge chocolate Santa you discovered under Christmas tree when
you were five.

The interesting thing about anchoring is that it can be used to break an association just as effectively as it creates one.

The exercise that follows is a classic NLP technique for changing your feeling about something that upsets or disturbs you.

Choose something now: A recent experience with your boss, a rude driver on the highway, something your mate does that
irritates you… Got it? Good.

Now, close your eyes, and really get into the feeling you have about it…notice the clenched jaw…the burning in the
stomach…really FEEL it…and extend your left arm out and imagine putting that feeling in you left hand and make it bigger
and stronger and
clench that hand around it and…make it HUGE!

Great, relax, sit up and recite your phone number backwards. Now, sing the first line of the Star Spangled Banner. (I know,
but play the game and just do it.)

OKAY! Great! Now, think of a recent experience that was really special that made you feel REALLY good. Maybe your
mother-in-law reluctantly complimented your parenting or your boss said she didn’t know what she would do without you
or your kids wrote a Christmas Carol just for you… Got it? Fantastic.

Lean back, close your eyes, and really experience that great feeling…feel the grin spread across the face…the proud
swelling of the chest…and extend your right arm out and imagine the putting the feeling into your right hand and make it
bigger and stronger until the goodness starts to overflow…and clench that hand and make it HUGE!

Perfect! Stand up, stretch, lean down and touch your toes (yeah, you can, or pretend you can) and spell the name of your
first grade teacher backwards. Now your sixth grade teacher.

OKAY! Now you are READY. Aren’t you?

Yep, you are. Sit down, close your eyes, extend both arms out in front of you with your fists clenched, and try to bring up the
first feeling that upset you. Really try to re-experience it…

Pretty neat, isn’t it, the way that works? Where else might you use that little mind trick?
