Saving the REAL Issues for last.
As often happens, it was at the end of our consultation session when the very pretty young woman got to what
was really uppermost in her mind…her weight. We had discussed all the other things - the more “worthy”
things like her son’s accident - that were bothering her. Finally, on her feet and ready to walk out the door,
she got to the pain that was the real reason for her appointment.

“Do you think that the stress has anything to do with this thirty pounds I put on?” she asked tentatively.

Reassured that there wasn’t much doubt, she went on quickly to explain that she needed help dealing with her
husband when she got home. She knew that he would …once again…ask if she had tested the new treadmill he
had bought her and she just knew they were going to get into another fight.

He was only trying to help in his heavy-handed way, but the treadmill had followed a calendar featuring her in
a bikini thirty pounds earlier, and the untouched treadmill was becoming the focus of a very sore issue. He
said he wanted to know if it worked so he could give the carton to the boys to play in. She felt he was
manipulating her to use it and it made her angry.

I understood both perspectives, so I waited quietly for the next question.

“I’m not going to step on that thing until I’m ready,” she said, “which may be never.” I never wanted the darn
thing in the first place. But what should I tell him?”

What would you say if....?
The set up was perfect.

I smiled knowingly and waited until I had her anticipating the perfect comeback.

Then I waited another five seconds before I said, “What would you say if you were thirty pounds lighter?

Startled, she hesitated. Several expressions flitted across her face.

Then, she bounced to her feet with a huge smile on her face. “I’d say, ‘Try it out yourself if you want to know
so badly.’” And, she gave me a big hug.

She walked out of my office with her shoulders back and a spring in her step….because she had stepped back
into the memory…and the feelings…of being a beautiful slender woman with a gorgeous body.

And that restored her sense of power.

And that power…that faith in herself…that knowledge of who she is under that extra weight…that ability to
BELIEVE in herself again…was all she needed to BECOME herself again.

I knew…and she knew…that moment was the tipping point.  

Three hypnosis sessions and three months later, almost to the day, she emailed me two photo’s….the beach
bikini from the calendar and another, almost identical, taken at a back yard pool. Her hair was shorter in the
second photo. The body was the same.

Undoing good hypnosis with bad.
Hypnosis is great stuff…but too many people undo excellent sessions in a few days by miserably imagining
themselves enduring weeks and months of “dessert deprivation” or picturing themselves sweating and puffing
and feeling miserable in body masking shapeless suits at the gym.

Because those images are hypnosis too…self-hypnosis of the worst kind.

The formula for success.
To succeed, we have to be able to know what success will give us. We have to see it, feel it, smell it, hear it,
and live our lives as already being that way….imagining it in the future or reliving a memory…it doesn’t matter.


What does matter is that you live it…the experience of having what you desire…NOW!

Ask yourself…How do I get up in the morning when I ______ (weigh 30 lbs less)? How do I eat breakfast?
How do I talk? How do I fix my hair? How do I dress for the day? How do I drive? What do I take for lunch?
How do I talk to the boss when she’s unreasonable? How do I shop? How do I talk on the phone? How do I
sleep (yes, sleep) when I know I’m trim and beautiful?

Do you think it doesn’t make a difference? Imagine you as you are now doing all those things? What would
you do differently if you knew you already ARE what you desire (slim, trim and gorgeous, president of your
own business, graduating with a law degree)?

Almost everything, right?

Why?  

Confidence.

WHAT you desire isn’t what matters. Fill in the blank with anything you truly desire.  It’s being able to FEEL
what you are like when you have it that “hypnotizes” you into success.

Experiencing your outcome in your mind does two very important things:
     (1)It makes you KNOW it is worth the effort…and
     (2) by acting as if you already have it, it gives you the confidence to make it happen.

You experience the POWER of having achieved what you want…and that’s the most potent hypnosis there is.

The rest, as they say, is just details.
