Welcome to the
MindChanger NewsLetter.

Check out the NEW stuff on www.changebyhypnosis.com.  You will find a new articleChange? Sure
you can
” and the first two parts of a new series of articles calledAre YOU Secretly Afraid of
Success
?” (Three more parts are scheduled.)

January brought in several New Year’s smokers wanting to be hypnotized to quit smoking, and
many of
them are doing extremely well.

Hypnosis is one of the most effective methods for escaping from the tobacco habit. I used it myself.
Twice. (With two years of not smoking in between.)

And that tells you something very important about how hypnosis works for changing habits, whether it’
s smoking, eating, nail biting, gambling, or some other form of self-abuse. The principles are similar,
whatever the issue. The repetition element AND the emotional element (possibly more than one) must
be addressed and de-fused. Eliminating one without the other seldom gets lasting results.

Hypnosis makes the Change Process a lot easier by reducing or removing cravings, reminding you that
you have choices, and helping you to feel good about making the positive choice. On the other hand, it
cannot make you do something you don’t really want to do, and therein lies the rub.

Too many of us are convinced (with much help from commercials)
that we need a crutch  to get through “difficult” times.
Logically, what could be more ridiculous?

Come on, tell me how biting my nails will provide me the answers I need on a tough test. Explain, step
by step how, if I smoke a cigarette, the transmission on my car gets unbroken.  And, my cat got hit by a
car; tell me again how eating a chocolate bar will make my grief disappear. Surely, if it works for you,
it should work for me. Isn’t that logical?

Or should we scrap the logic and look at what’s really going on?

Actually, what we are doing in these situations is indulging our superstitions. That’s the descriptive
term for this kind of “magical thinking”.

Hanging garlic around your neck to ward off vampires stems from the same “thinking” as lighting a
cigarette to ward off car mechanics. You could cross your fingers instead of biting the nails, throw coins
in a fountain instead of a slot machine, or swallow powdered toad bones instead of chocolate, and get
the same effect.

The POWER you attribute to the “cure” comes
exclusively from YOUR beliefs. The Federal Drug
Administration calls it the “Placebo Effect”. It’s actually self-hypnosis.

The truth is, when we are STRESSED we automatically reach for the garlic/cigarettes-toad
bones/chocolate like toddlers clutching their magic blanket.

When we are STRESSED we tend to revert to emotional childhood. What we really and truly DON’T
WANT is to be the adult facing the unpleasant episode. We experience a powerful desire to clutch onto
something familiar, and it doesn’t matter in the least what it costs us because children can’t process the
concept of cost.

That’s why we can be so vulnerable when something “bad” happens. The subconscious activates the old
associations and we regress to the unacceptable behavior. Usually, if we wait ten minutes, the urge
would disappear, but children are not good at waiting…

… I did it, too. It was my driveshaft lying on I-40 in Tennessee that sent me scurrying to the cigarettes
I had renounced two years earlier.

When the cigarettes didn’t fix my driveshaft, I had TWO problems. So, the only reasonable option was
to take the adult way out. I gritted my teeth and fixed them both because they were getting in the way
of the other things that were more important.

…and that reminds me of a story...

An employee of a company that encourages employees to quit smoking was reading the Bulletin Board listing all the Smoking
Cessation Programs available.

A co-worker stopped beside him briefly, saw what he was reading and said, “That’s stuff’s not for me. I’m doing hypnosis
instead.”

“Do you think hypnosis will work?”

“It should,” the second employee said as he headed out the door for a smoke. “It did the first time.”

                                        February’s Law of the Mind
LAW OF IMAGINATION; Imagination is more powerful than knowledge, and when the two are in
conflict, imagination will always win. What the mind can conceive and believe, the mind can achieve.

                      ….and to go with that…
from Albert Einstein…one of my favorite quotes…

“Imagination is your preview of coming events.”

New Studies say insufficient sleep makes you stupid and sick!

Several new studies, coming from all over the world, prove that sleep is an essential component of
mental health. Getting less than enough good sleep has been associated with everything from obesity to
colds. Stress, mental disorientation, poor job performance, and violence in the work place have all been
proven to result from insufficient sleep.

So, who’s surprised?

Who hasn’t suffered some of those symptoms? Who hasn’t spent endless hours trying to wrestle
problems into a place where we can lock them up until morning (when the light and our eyesight is
better).

AND, YES, THERE’S A NEW CD COMING OUT THIS MONTH - AT A CLIENT’S REQUEST, IT’S CALLED
“SLEEP WELL AND DREAM SOLUTIONS.

ALL TOO OFTEN WE ARE CHEATED OF THE HEALING SLEEP WE NEED BY THE DAYTIME PROBLEMS
TWISTING AND SQUIRMING THROUGH OUR DEFENSELESS MINDS. THIS CD IS DESIGNED TO GET
THOSE PROBLEMS OUT OF THE CONSCOUS MIND UNTIL THE BODY IS RESTED.  ONLY THE WISE
SUBCONCIOIUS IS ALLOWED TO WORK ON THEM WHILE YOU SLEEP, AND THAT’S A WONDERFUL
WAY TO GET SOLUTIONS.

Subscribers will be offered the usual short- term discount when it is ready in a few days.   I’ll send you
an email when it is ready.

Real Hypnosis: In the privacy of a hypnotherapy office, with the door closed, soft music playing and a
comfortable chair for support, many people discover ideas floating to the surface of their minds that
they had forgotten or pushed aside for many years. Sometimes there is anger, often there are tears,
and almost always, there are questions. The biggest one is usually a rather baffled "How did I let that
happen?"

How did you get to be who you are?

Take a good look in the mirror. Are you pleased to be that person?

Most of us didn't choose to be the person we are today. It just happened. In fact, an awful lot of the
things we are came about purely by accident. Who you are, how you live, where you live, especially what
you do to make a living - did you really plan for them to turn out that way? Is that what you always wanted
for yourself?

If you want to learn a profound lesson about how we make choices, go to the pet store and buy a fish
(any kind), an aquarium, whatever else you have to buy to keep the fish alive, and a thin sheet of
transparent glass or acrylic. After you get the tank all set up according to instructions, use the glass/acrylic
to divide the aquarium in half.  Put the fish either side of the tank.  After a month or so, remove the
partition. The fish will continue to live in the half of the tank, swimming back and forth as if the partition
were still in place.

In fact, the fish may continue to live in half the tank for all of its natural life if nothing forces it to
explore its boundaries again.

The fish has been programmed to believe the boundaries of its world are half of what they actually are.
What limits have YOU accepted that exist only in your imagination?

How many of your limits were programmed into you before you were old enough to know there were
other choices?

And, the big question - how many limits have you accepted, even embraced, voluntarily? Because it was
easy. Because it was immediately available. Because it was where you were. Because you were scared.
Because it was safe.  Because you didn’t think.

Or, because you’ve been swimming back and forth in half the tank.

So, now, still looking in the mirror, ask that person, “Who’s stopping me from _______? Whose life is
this anyway?

If this concept touches something in you, send a silent thank you to a woman who recently decided to
change her life because she had the courage to ask herself these questions and reminded me to pass
them on to you.

Be careful what you say to yourself…you’re listening.
